The remote Træna archipelago, located at the edge of the Arctic Circle, is being positioned as an unexpected alternative to Europe’s crowded Mediterranean coast. Its newest arrival is Ytri, a 38-room hotel on the tiny island of Husøya, where an almost lunar landscape meets contemporary Norwegian design.

Created with regional materials and interiors by Oslo studio Bonaparte, the hotel includes glass-walled saunas, a plunge pool and a restaurant overlooking the neighbouring island of Sanna. Rather than separating visitors from its rugged setting, Ytri encourages them to explore caves, fishing villages and Arctic waters, making remoteness part of the experience.
