For the first time in its 50-year history, the complete BMW Art Car Collection is being presented in one place. Opening at BMW Welt in Munich on 29 July, the exhibition brings together 20 cars transformed by artists including Alexander Calder, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, David Hockney, Jenny Holzer and Julie Mehretu.

The project began in 1975, when racing driver and art dealer Hervé Poulain invited Calder to turn a BMW 3.0 CSL into a work of art. Five decades later, the collection has become an unconventional survey of contemporary art, moving through Pop Art, Minimalism, abstraction, conceptual practice and digital experimentation on four wheels.
